PRUNTYTOWN—The Taylor County Middle School Knights Cross Country team participated in the Fairmont Senior Invitational at Apple Valley Country Club on Saturday, and many of TCMS head coach Karey Maier’s runners finished with solid times throughout the day.
On the boys’ side, M.J. Niggemyer finished in a team-best 27th place in the varsity race with a time of 13:42, followed by Jacob Maier (13:58) and McCray Blackwell (13:59), who also broke 14 minutes. They were followed by Owen Shreve (14:11), Harrison Maier (14:33), Brayden Weaver (14:55), and Jonathan Maier (14:56). Those times would place Taylor County in 6th place as a team out of the 14 teams who participated in the event.
In the JV race, the Knights’ Colson Annon led the way for TCMS with a team-best 25th-place, finishing with a time of 15:38. He was followed by Greyson Ramezan (15:40, 26th place), Austin Mayle (16:27), Gabriel Young (16:37), Landon Brown (17:15), Corbin Knotts (17:30), and Noah Moats (19:50). Those times would help TCMS to an overall 5th-place finish.
In the girls’ varsity race, the Lady Knights would again be led by Emily Viani (15:33), who helped her team to a 9th-place finish overall. Following Viani were River Sipes (15:47), Kevie Sipes (16:07), Kelsie Massie (16:48), Caitlyn Boylen (18:10), and Ellie Royce (20:57).
“As the season is coming to an end, TCMS has made great progress,” said a proud Maier. “My 8th graders will be assets to the high school team next year.”
TCMS will be back in action on October 15th when they head to West Union to participate in the Doddridge County Invitational.
That race is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
