WESTON—The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Knights Football team traveled to face the Patriots of Robert L. Bland Middle School last Thursday, October 22.
The Knights were on the road for this showdown and found themselves at the losing end of the spectrum with the Patriots defeating the Knights with a final score of 24-20.
TCMS Head Coach Bobby Beltner stated, “They made their point after attempts and we missed ours, that was the difference in the game. We also had two turnovers in the game, and we couldn’t force any, so that didn’t help.”
Troy Weber led the Knights, carrying the ball 14 times, for 119 yards and claimed one touchdown.
Kaden Keener was also strong for the team with 19 carries for 84 yards and one touchdown along with Jarrett Blackhurst handling the ball for 15 touches with a combined 76 yards and one touchdown.
The Knights’ defense had some standouts against the Patriots with Max Bracero garnering six tackles and Kaden Keener with five, but it just was not enough to overcome the movement of the Patriots.
In a heartbreaking fourth quarter, the Knights down 16-6, were able to score and cut the lead to 16-12.
Coach Beltner called for an onside kick and the Knights recovered and used it to their advantage to score again to take the lead 20-16.
Unfortunately, there was still 3:00 minutes to go in the game and Patriots scored with 51 seconds of play remaining.
Armed with only one time out, the Knights were able to move the ball down field to the six yard line, but just couldn’t punch it in on the last play before the whistle sounded to give the game to the Patriots 24-20.
The TCMS Knights traveled to Philip Barbour Wednesday for their final season game where they took home the victory 41-6 against the Colts. The Mountain Statesman will have coverage of that game in next weeks paper. The TCMS finished their season with a record of 6-2.
