Keener has stellar performance on the mound against Notre Dame

NUTTER FORT— The Grafton High School Boys Bearcat Baseball program travelled to Frank Loria Field last week to take on the unbeaten Notre Dame baseball team and secure a victory against an opposing opponent with a final score of 14-6.

Dustin Keener would take the mound for the Bearcats and as he put on a stellar display of pitching as he only allowed three hits and two runs while adding four K’s. Isaiah Vanscoy would pull up for the save allowing four runs on three hits to log the save for the Bearcats.

The game would begin set on a fast pace as Issac Lough led off the game stretching out a double into a in the park homerun. Keener and Tanner Moats would also drop some hits as the Bearcats came out swinging.

The third inning would find the Bearcats starting to pull away in spectacular fashion as the heart of the Grafton lineup was relentless in pounding the ball and by the bottom of the sixth inning the Bearcats lead was stretched to six as the score settled at 9-3.

Notre Dame would rally in the seventh adding three more runs but that is as close as the would come to the Bearcats as they were able to tack on five more runs by the closing innings and sealing the victory over an unbeaten team.

Head Coach Bartsel Keener commented after the game. “We’re a work in progress, and we are a young team, but we finally hit the ball to our capability. I was very happy with the way we played.”

Tanner Moats would lead the game for the Bearcats with four hits and five RBI’s. Dustin Keener would also have a good day at the plate with four hits of his own and three runs batted in. Issac Lough also contributed with two hits and three RBI’s.
