CLARKSBURG—The Grafton High School boys and girls track team competed at Robert C. Byrd High School last Tuesday night, in their first track meet of the year.
The Bearcats competed against teams from RCB, Lincoln, East Fairmont, Fairmont Senior, Notre Dame and South Harrison.
In team competition the GHS girls finished fourth with 73 points, and the boys finished fifth with 48 points.
Sydney Keener led the girls team with a first place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, and also teamed up with Brooklyn Perks, Bronlie Jacobs and Morgan Loomis to take first place in the 100 meter shuttle hurdles.
The Grafton girls also excelled in the 100 meter hudles, as Keener took second place, Perks took third and Jacobs finished fourth.
In the field events Micah Collins was a top finisher, as she placed fourth in the high jump.
Kacyie Cochran placed fourth in the 800 meter run, while teammate Rachel McKinney placed fourth in the 100 meter dash.
“After conquering a few cases of nerves, we exhibited some great performances,” said first year head coach Becky Lake.
“Sydney Keener, as well as our whole shuttle hurdle team will be forces to be reckoned with. We are still in the conditioning and learning phase of the season. At this point I’m very proud of our efforts and I look forward to many personal records being made this year,” Lake added.
Tristenn Cochran led the boys with a first place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, and a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.
The 4x800 relay team of Logan Miller, Matthew Cather, Dakota Norris and Logan Carr finished second with a time of 9:42.65.
In the field events, Christopher Loomis finished fourth in the high jump and Blaise Nibert finished third in the long jump.
The boys and girls will be back in action this Saturday ,as they travel to Kingwood to compete at Preston County High School.
