John Ashley Curry, age 64, of E. Main Street, Kingwood, WV, passed away at his residence Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
He was born January 20, 1953 in Warren, Ohio a son of the late Lawrence “Bud” Curry, Jr. and Leona Marie (Tenney) Curry.
John graduated from Newburg High School with the Class of 1971 and then served in the US Army 82nd Airborne from 1971-1975. He served in the Army reserves with the 363 MP Company of Grafton until he was honorably discharged in 1983. John worked as a driver with UPS while in Alaska.
John’s greatest passion was hunting and fishing and he had a love for the state of Alaska. He also was an avid rodeo contender as a bull rider until a rodeo injury ended his career.
He is survived by three children, Jennifer Everly and husband Mike, of Morgantown, John Curry, Jr. of Newburg, and Jason Curry and wife Ginnie, of Gladesville; his former wife, Julie A. (Matthews) Curry; two sisters, Debbra Wolfe and husband David, of Tunnelton and Lawren Goughenour and husband Michael, of Newburg; two brothers, David Curry and wife Debbie, of Independence, and Kevin Curry and wife Marci, of Grafton; eight grandchildren, Tristan Walker, Luke Walker, Madison Harris, Jayden Curry, Nathan and Jaycie Grogg, Gehrig Everly, and Ivory Oletha Curry.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Sunday, March 12th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at noon on Monday, March 13, 2017 with Pastor Sunny Menear and Pastor David Curry officiating.
Interment will follow at the Harmony Grove Cemetery.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Army National Guard of Kingwood.
