James Jacob May, 71, of Grafton, formerly of Thornton, passed away at Grafton City Hospital on Saturday, February 29, 2020.
He was born August 2, 1948, in Monongalia County, WV, son of the late Ellis S. and Mary Virginia Huffman May.
He was preceded in death by his wife Isabelle Catherine “Cathy” Leggett Williams on May, January 6, 2019.
Jim was a member of the Grafton 7th Day Adventist Church. He was retired from the Monongalia County Board of Education, loved to work in his yard from daylight to dark, loved to go fishing, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He served in the Morgantown Police Reserve from 1990 to 2009.
He is survived by one son, Joseph “Joey” May, Grafton; one sister, Julia Daft, and husband Gary, Morgantown; one brother, John May and wife Pat, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ellen Rowan; one brother-in-law, James Arnold Rowan.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., and on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 9:00 a.m., until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Randall Murphy officiating.
Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park.
