James E. Haddix Sr


James E. Haddix Sr, 90, of Newburg, WV, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Pine Ridge, in Kingwood, with family by his side.

He was born May 7, 1926, at Irwin, Cheat River, son of the late James Adams Garfield and Eliza Ann Rhodes Teter Haddix.

Jim served in the United State Army during World War II. He worked at Sterling Faucet for 16 years in maintenance, Union Carbide Corporation in Clarksburg for 18 years in the Electrical Department. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and loved spending time with family and friends, and especially the crew at Chuck’s Store. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, going and visiting, and telling jokes. Jim was a member of Newburg United Methodist Church, Newburg Rotary, Newburg Senior Center, Tunnelton VFW Post 2345 and American Legion Taylor County Post 12.

Jim was survived by two sons, James “Jimmy” Haddix Jr. and Janet ,of Newburg, Mark Haddix and Gloria, of Newburg; six grandchildren, Josh Swisher and Courtney, Chastity Swisher, Sheldon Swisher and Ashley Sisler, Kyle Tanner and Sasha, Stephanie Clark, Steve Gabbert; eleven great-grandchildren, Sierra Gabbert, Kyley Tanner, Allie and Clayton Degasperin, Jessup Bennett, Ashden Dixon and Zach, Harper Swisher, Millie Swisher, Ralee Swisher, Isasc McDaniel, Braylon Tanner; one great great granddaughter, Paige Dixon; one brother, John and Twila Haddix, Independence, one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rudell Hawkins, Newburg, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mae Bolyard Haddix in 2011, two granddaughters, Christine Haddix Gabbert and Tonya L. Shaffer; five brothers, Harry Teter, Oscar Teter, Ira Teter, Frank Haddix, and Richard Haddix; six sisters, Katherine Sisler, Greatha McDaniel, Maude Hayes, Mabel Hayes, Myrtle Sapp and Lucille Haddix, one niece, Naomi Frankhouser;

A very special thank you to  Amedysis Hospice, Toni, Craig, Paula and Laura; special friends, Connie and Gene King, Pam and Tom Willis, and Edgar Fortney.

Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, Wednesday, April 12, 2017, from 2:00-8:00 p.m., and Thursday, April 13, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m., with the Pastor David Freeman officiating.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Col. Rowan Post 2345, Preston County Chapter 977, Vietnam Veterans of America and the Preston County Honor Guard. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton.
