It’s time to get your little ones registered for school

Pre-K sign up events to be held at local schools in coming weeks

TAYLOR COUNTY—The end of school may still be months away, but parents of little ones will soon be able to sign their youngsters up for Pre-K classes for the upcoming school year.

The registration event is a collaboration between Taylor County Schools, Little Feet Day Care and Preschool and the North Central West Virginia Community Action Association’s Head Start program.

Pre-K Coordinator Shannon Lewis shared that they are really excited to continue the collaboration with the organizations and look forward to getting your little ones enrolled for school.

Parents can get a jump start and sign their children up online. According to Lewis, parents may log onto to access the application.

For those parents who would like to attend in-person registration, they may do so at any location.

“Pick a day and time and come see us at one of our locations. Registration may be completed at any site, regardless of where your child will attend school,” Lewis voiced. “Make sure you bring your application, along with the other important documentation. We look forward to seeing you!

Registrations will take place the week of March 14-18 and will begin on Monday at Anna Jarvis Elementary School from 8:30-11:00 a.m.

Parents may visit West Taylor Elementary School on Tuesday, March 15; Flemington Elementary School on Wednesday, March 16; and NCWVCAA Head Start on Thursday, March 17. To round out the week, signups will be completed on Friday, March 18 at Little Feet Daycare and Preschool. The enrollment events will be held from 8:30-11:00 a.m., as well.

An additional week of enrollment will be held on March 21-25, to allow even more opportunities for families to visit one of their registration events.

Participants may visit Anna Jarvis Elementary School on Monday, West Taylor Elementary School on Tuesday, Flemington Elementary School on Wednesday, NCWVCAA Head Start on Thursday or Little Feet Daycare and Preschool on Friday of that week. All events are slated for 12:30-2:30 p.m.

To complete the application process, parents or guardians are asked to bring with them their child’s original certified birth certificate, social security card, shot and immunization records, dental exam sheet and their child’s physical or well-child exam forms.

As part of the enrollment process, a Pre-K Screening Day will be held to assess an applicant’s vision, hearing, speech acuity, as well as their fine and gross motor skills. Appointments will be scheduled for the screening on registration days.

In the event of a snow day, registration appointments will be rescheduled for the same day and the same time the following week.

If school is on a two-hour delay the registration will start at 10:00 a.m. and earlier appointments will be worked in.
