Herbert Stephen Moats, 65, of Wickwire, passed away at his home, with his loving family by his side, on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
He was born in Barbour County, on September 27, 1954.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sloan Moats on July 22, 2018. He is survived by his mother, Gertrude Moats, Grafton.
Steve retired from American Railroad, loved spending time at Holly River State Park, riding his Kubota, and enjoyed tinkering on his projects. He loved spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren, and with his dogs, Swiper and Peanut.
He is survived by four children: Kristina Peters, and husband Jason, Grafton; Ashley K. Knotts, Evansville, Ind.; Mike Moats and wife Amy, Grafton; Mark Moats and wife Cari, Flemington; thirteen grandchildren: Savanah, Garrett, Mallorie, Hannah, Tanner, Gabe, Maddie, Jayson, Noah, Jacob, Chloe, Kaleb, and Stevie: a very special great-grandchild is on the way: and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
He loved his in-laws as his own brothers and sisters: Butch Munson, Linda Nickerson, Alfred Sloan, Terry Sloan, Rick Sloan, Tom Sloan, Donna Wagner, Donnie Cumpston.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew D. Moats; and two sisters-in-law: Wanda Board and Mae Cumpston.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. Grafton, on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 3:00-8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Paul Boyles officiating.
Interment will follow at the Middleville Baptist Church Cemetery.
