Hazel Joan J. (Gawthrop) Hardesty, 88, of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Licking Memorial Hospital (Hospice) with her daughter by her side.
She was born April 13, 1932, in Taylor County, Grafton, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Garland G. and Susie (Hustead) Gawthrop.
She graduated in 1950 from Grafton High School and also worked at a Dentist’s office in Grafton.
She moved to Ohio where she was a homemaker and had three children, worked at the local hospital, and got a job at Larry’s Drug Store where she worked for many years and then went to work at Northside Pharmacy in Zanesville, Ohio where she retired and moved back to Newark, Ohio to be closer to her daughters.
She loved cooking and watching cooking shows on TV. She loved reading Amish books and getting together with friends at Sharon Glyn Senior Apartments where she lived for 20+ years.
She is survived by one son and wife Charles (Chuck) and (Sue) Patterson, Bangor, Maine; one daughter and son-in-law Brenda and (Richard) Levingston of Newark, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law Robert (Bob) and Camilla Gawthrop of Grafton; one sister Patty Boyles of Clarksburg; eight grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandson’s.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eva curry and Alice Jean McVicker; and one daughter, Pamela Kay VanSickle.
The family will have a private graveside service on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Grafton.
