Grafton youth wrestlers hit the mats in Maryland

GARRETT COUNTY—The Grafton youth wrestling team headed to Garrett County Maryland last weekend, to compete in the Southern Garrett Invitational.

The Cubs came away with one first place finish, one second place finish and three third place finishes.

The top finisher for the Cubs was JW Nestor, who placed first in the 6U 60 pound class.

Maverick Bartsch had a solid tournament finishing in second place in the 8U 50 pound class.

The Cubs had three wrestlers finish in third place. They include Christian Cox (10u,100 lb.), Dylan Gutshall (10U, 90 lb.) and Garrett Davis (8U, 75 lb.).

The other Cubs that competed in the tournament were Jayce Mapel, Luke Knotts, Brayton Davis and Brock Sturms.

The organization is coming into the 2017-2018 season with a new head coach.

Logan Williams has stepped into this role for the Cubs. Logan was a very successful wrestler and a four year letterman for GHS.

The Cubs roster has 25 wrestlers listed with at least eight of the 25 will be trying wrestling for the first time. The ages range from 4 -12 and they will welcome new members at anytime.

The practices are scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30—7:30 p.m.

The next match is scheduled for this Saturday in the Philip Barbour Open. The tournament will be held at Philip Barbour High School.
