CLARKSBURG—The Big Ten Conference held its annual conference championship swim meet this past Saturday at the Clarksburg YMCA and many of the Grafton Bearcat swimmers fared very well throughout the day.

For the boys’ team, sophomore Will Angus scored 18 points for GHS, placing third in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 free event.

On the girls’ side, the team of Frederique Maloley, Skylar Wooddell, Jerra Halbritter, and Katie Novisky scored eight points in the 200 free relay with a seventh-place finish, and scored six more points for the ‘Cats with an eighth-place finish in the 200-medley relay.

Maloley also scored one point with a 10th-place finish in the 50 free event and added another point with a 13th-place finish in the 100 breast stroke.

Novisky also added a point to the Bearcats’ overall total with a solid 10th-place finish in the 200 free event.

“This was a good meet for us,” said Grafton head coach Heather England. “We had some consistent swims and a couple of personal bests. Will did a great job to get our boys some top five points in both events which is not easy in this conference. Katie and Fred were also able to score a couple of points for our girls’ team.”

The Bearcats hosted East Fairmont yesterday but results from that meet were not immediately available. They will host Senior Night for their only senior (Skylar Wooddell) on April 6 as they face Philip Barbour and North Marion at Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi.

“The Big Ten was great championship-meet experience for all of our swimmers to prepare them for Regionals in a couple of weeks,” England added.
