CLARKSBURG—The Grafton Post 12 American Legion baseball team opened its 2017 season last week as they traveled to Frank Loria Field to face the Clarksburg legion team.
Post 12 scored two in the first, but allowed five in the bottom of the inning on their way to a 10 to 8 loss to Clarksburg.
Cameron Forte led Post 12 from the plate with three hits and scored two runs. The remaining Grafton hits came from Marcus Bevilock (2), Chase Setler, TJ Summers (2) and Joey Dingledine. The Post 12 runs were scored by Garrett Moats (2), Bevilock, Setler, Summers and Andrew Irvine.
Moats got the start on the hill for Post 12 as he went 5 complete innings while Setler completed the game for Grafton.
In the second game of the season, Post 12 headed to Lewis County High School to face Jane Lew. Both teams had allowed several runs in the sixth inning but in the end Post 12 falls to Jane Lew 17 to 6.
TJ Summers led Grafton with four hits including two doubles. The other Grafton hits came from Forte, Moats, Setler (2), Mark Irvine and Griffin Miller. The runs were scored by Forte, Moats (2), Summers, Dingledine and G. Miller.
Forte was the starting pitcher for Post 12 as he went four complete innings then was relieved by Andrew Devart and Setler.
Post 12 will be back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Harrison County to take on South Harrison at 6:00 pm.
