BUCKHANNON—The GHS swimmers competed in the Splash Invitational, this past weekend, at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The swimmers improved on many of their times, and swam to a sixth place finish.
“Today was an extremely satisfying day for our team, as every single one of them, once again, swam a personal best time, in at least one of their events,” said first year coach Heather England.
“We had a few kids who cut over four and five seconds off of their best time...that’s huge in swimming,” she added.
In the girls division the Bearcats finished in sixth-place, with MaKenna Nose leading the way, with 32 points, followed by Kortney Welch with 28.
The remaining points were scored by Payton England (20) and Natalie Satterfield (18). The relay teams accounted for 64 more points.
In the boys division, the Cats finished in eleventh place, with Braeden Nose earning 19 points, and Calvin Wise recording 11 points of his own.
“I cannot express how proud I am of everyone’s performance today, at the Splash,” said England. “The last time we competed was two weeks ago, at Fairmont State. The following week, we had limited practice days, due to bad weather.”
England said this past week she added an extra practice, since the kids had not seen the pool for several days.
“They pushed through, and today, their hard work paid off. As a combined team, we finished eighth out of 15 schools today,” she added.
The swimming Cats will be back in action at the Big Ten Conference Championship, this Saturday, at the Harrison County YMCA, and then they’ll head to the Region III meet, on Febuary 4, back at West Virginia Wesleyan.
