Grafton Gators back in action after a week hiatus

GRAFTON—The Grafton Gators jumped back into the water last week as they hosted the Clarksburg Swim Team on July 9, at the Grafton City Pool.

It was their eighth meet of the season and their first after being off a week for the July 4th holiday.

The Gators placed first in 31 of the 49 events to finish with 239 overall points. Scoring is dependent on the type of races in which a swimmer participates and the results of his or her finishes.

In the relay portion of the meet, a first-place finish scores seven points and a second-place finish scores three points. In the individual events, a first-place finish will score five points, second place scores three points, and third place scores one point.

Placing first in multiple events were Jonathon Maier, Layne England, Dylan Stead, Bryton Andrews, Zack Nibert, Isaac Young, Katelyn Novisky, Julia Shay, Riley Countryman, Leah Jackson, Caroline Stead, Bella Lemon, Alyssa Jackson, Brooklyn Haddix, Savannah Lyons, and Jocelyn Countryman.

Novisky finished first in a team-high five events, in various lengths and formats.

Also securing victories for the Gators were Will Angus, Parker Phillips, Jordyn Abel, Kendall Frey, Lauren Worth, Natalie Beltner, Jordan Niggemyer, Leyland Phillips, and Kevie Sipes.

The Gators were also back in action on Thursday, July 11 at Buckhannon, although results from that meet were not immediately available.

They will finish their regular season on Tuesday, July 16 in a home meet against Bridgeport, before participating in the end-of-the season NCWV Summer Championships in Shinnston on July 19-20.
