GRAFTON—This National Hospital Week, May 8 – 14, 2022, Grafton City Hospital, an affiliate of Mon Health System, will follow the theme “We Are Health Care - recognizing the people who work in America’s hospitals and health systems.
We are asking the public to join in this effort to help celebrate National Hospital Week by showing support to all health care workers.
The event theme, announced earlier, is an opportunity to highlight hospitals, health systems and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting and connected to their community; this is especially important during surges of COVID-19. During National Hospital Week and all weeks, we recognize the hospitals, health care systems, networks, and others who provide care to their community.
Our healthcare professionals certainly have given us an abundance of hope with their courage and dedication. It is a great time for hospitals and health systems to celebrate the incredible work of employees – from physicians, nurses and other clinicians, environmental services teams, food and nutrition service workers to maintenance teams, lab workers, and so many more.
“National Hospital Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of courageous and inspiring people,” Kevin Gessler, Chief Administrative Officer of Grafton City Hospital, said. “We’re extremely proud of each member of our team here at Grafton City Hospital. We celebrate the important role they play, every day, in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our communities. To all those working at Grafton City Hospital, and in America’s hospitals and health systems, we extend an enormous and heartfelt ‘thank you’ for your compassion, strength and service to the communities we serve every day.”
The nation’s largest health care event, National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it was established as a way to encourage community members to support hospitals after the Spanish flu outbreak in 1918.
In 1953, National Hospital Day was turned into National Hospital Week. The timing of Hospital Week coincides with Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
Grafton City Hospital will be celebrating National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week with a host of events. During this week, there will also be a moment of silence to honor our nurses and health care workers for their heroic efforts throughout the pandemic and to remember the lives lost and saved from COVID-19.
Even more important during this still-challenging time, let’s encourage our communities to continue showing gratitude and support to our health care workers by following the CDC guidelines, wearing a mask when appropriate and getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Much has changed in the world of medicine since Grafton City Hospital first opened their doors over 100 years ago. However, one thing remains unchanged, and that is the staff and caregivers of Grafton City Hospital, remain steadfast in their unwavering commitment to caring for, and improving, the health of the Taylor Count Community.
Please join Grafton City Hospital’s heroic healthcare workers in celebrating National Hospital Week May 8 – 14, 2022.
