FAIRMONT – The Grafton Little League 12U all-star team traveled to Mary Lou Retton Park, on Sunday, to play in a District 5 elimination game against Worthington Little League.
The Grafton boys scored two runs in the first inning but that was all they could put on the board as they go on to lose 13–2.
Charles Hoskins and Isaiah Vanscoy led the Grafton offense with one hit apiece. Hoskins singled in the second inning, while Vanscoy doubled in the first.
The only other base runners for Grafton were Isaac Lough, who was hit by a pitch, and Austin Mayle, who reached on an error.
In the bottom of the first, Hoskins reached on an error, and then, Lough was hit by a pitch to set up the scoring for Grafton.
Vanscoy doubled into left field, scoring Hoskins from second, and on the play, Lough advanced to third.
Cole Goldizen then grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Lough to score from third. This would be the final run scored by Grafton on the day, as Worthington took over the contest scoring 11 unanswered runs.
Vanscoy also got the start on the hill for Grafton, as he threw one and a third innings, giving up six runs on four hits, walking three and striking out three.
Aiden Sheme then came in for Grafton, as he stuck out one, walked six and allowed seven runs on six hits.
“I am so proud of how far this group has come over the last four years,” said manager Zach Sheme. “If this group keeps playing enough baseball over the next few years, Grafton High School should have some pretty good teams in the future.”
With the loss, Grafton was eliminated from the tournament and will bring their Little League season to an end.
