Glenn Alan Everly, age 74, passed away on Sunday, December 17, at Duke University Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 3, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, and spent his childhood in Zanesville, Ohio.
While attending West Virginia University in the 1960s, Glenn met his future wife, Nita. After graduating, they moved to Grafton, West Virginia, where they made lifelong friendships and together had three children--Becca, Bryan and Eric.
A strong believer in the importance of education in helping children to achieve their potential, Glenn served as principal at West End, East End and Anna Jarvis Elementary Schools, before becoming Director of Instruction and later Assistant Superintendent of Taylor County Schools. He was also a member of the Hospital and Bank boards, and several other local boards and committees.
The Everlys moved in 1989 to Mount Airy, North Carolina, where Glenn began work with State Farm Insurance Co. and formed deep and lasting relationships with members of the local community. Even after moving to Fort Myers, Florida in 2010, Glenn and Nita spent much of their time in North Carolina.
Glenn is survived by his wife Nita; his children and their spouses--Becca (husband Chris), Bryan, and Eric (wife Rebecca); grandchildren Sebastian, Andrew, and Beatrix; brother Bill and sister-in-law Ruth; and nephews Rich and Scott.
A celebration of Glenn's life is planned for the spring of 2018.
