GRAFTON – The Grafton High School girls soccer team played host to Wheeling Park last Thursday night, then hosted Brooke on Saturday.

On Thursday, the girls played Wheeling Park, a team that had easily defeated the Cats earlier in the year. This time the GHS girls would not do down without a fight, as they played with more determination in the rematch. Unfortunately, the Cats were not able to finish their attacks and fall to Park 2 to 0.

The Lady Cats managed 13 shots on goal with six of the shots coming from senior forward Ally Peters. The remaining shots were recorded by Maggie Dickey (3), Kaycie Cochran (2), Kadie Dunham and Emily Knotts.

In goal for the Bearcats were Katie Grinnan and Bailey Toothman. The two goalies combined for four saves and both allowed one goal.

“We played them much better in the rematch,” said head coach Lorraine Isner. “The girls played with more composure and discipline. We made better decisions and more active off the ball in support and runs that allowed us to create more opportunities.  While we played with a lot of grit and determination, we need to finish our attacks with authority,” added Isner.

Finishing attacks is actually what they did on Saturday against Brooke, as the Cats shut out the Bruins 10 to 0. The Bearcats actually had two players with hat-tricks on the afternoon. Seniors Ally Peters and Rachel McKinney each scored three goals. The remaining goals were scored by Sarah Snider, Morgan Griffith, Madie Summers and Mariah Collins.

The GHS assists were credited to Dickey, Dunham, Cochran, Summers and Peters

In goal for the Cats were Katie Grinnan and Natalie Weber. The two goalies combined for zero saves, as the Bearcat defense keep the ball away from the goal all afternoon.

“We got more players involved in goal scoring today,” said Coach Isner. “This will help build our confidence to finish strong. Brooke is a very young and inexperienced team, but has a lot of potential. They played us for all 80 minutes and made us work for everything,” she added.

The girls were in action last night against Buckhannon. The next game is scheduled for Thursday at Bridgeport. The game will kick-off at 6:00 p.m.
