GHS wrestlers have strong showing at Cameron

CAMERON – The Grafton High School wrestling team traveled to Cameron over the weekend to compete in the Cameron Invitational at Cameron High School. The Bearcats had an outstanding meet as they were able to place 6 of the eight wrestlers that competed for the Bearcats.

Noah Allman continued to be hot at 106 as he came home with a second place finish. Allman was 4 -1 on the day with a 4-0 win in the semi-final round. Allman’s only loss came in the championship match.

At 120 Shawn Kelley finished the meet with a 1-2 record, while teammate Eli Shumaker placed seventh at 132 with a 2-2 record. Shumaker won his final match of the day in a thrilling 1-0 victory.

Senior Dillon Williams was almost unstoppable at 152 as he returned to GHS with a 4-1 record and his only loss came in the championship. Dillon would place second with his great effort on the day.

At 160 John Luke Massie recorded a winning record of 3-2 and returned with the fourth place trophy to GHS. At 170 Xander Larew gave a strong effort but came home with a 0-3 record.

Dalton Mayle was GHS’s representative at 182 at Cameron as he left the gym with a seventh place finish with a record of 2-2.

Garrett Williams, brother of teammate Dillon, continued to roll as he placed second in the 285 pound class. Garrett had a 4-1 record with his only loss coming in the championship match.

The Bearcats will have a few days off before returning to the mats on Friday and Saturday at the Braxton County Invitational. Wrestling will begin at Braxton on Friday at noon and on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
