GRAFTON—The GHS varsity and JV volleyball teams have been busy as of late, logging eight matches since opening their season at home versus Preston at the beginning of this month.
On September 10th, the Lady Bearcats hit the road for a tri-match at East Fairmont High School which also included Robert C. Byrd and Philip Barbour.
GHS lost to RCB 8-25 and 10-25 in the first match, 12-25 and 9-25 to Philip Barbour in the second match, and 12-25 and 15-25 to East Fairmont in the third match.
The next evening, the Lady Bearcats would travel to Farmington to take on the North Marion Huskies. Grafton would win the second set but lose a very close match by the scores of 13-25, 25-23, 26-28, and 21-25. The JV team also played and defeated North Marion, winning two out of three sets.
On September 12th, the JV’s would participate in a tri-match at East Fairmont High School. In the first contest, the Bearcats would drop a decision to the host Bees by the scores of 10-25 and 19-25. In the second matchup, the Lady Bearcats would face the Colts from Philip Barbour and although Grafton played much better in the second set, they dropped the contest by the scores of 4-25 and 12-25.
Both the varsity and junior varsity squads would see action again on Tuesday, September 17th, when they traveled to Buckhannon-Upshur for another tri-match. The varsity would drop two of three sets to the Bucs by the scores of 24-26, 25-23, and 17-25. The varsity would then drop their next contest to the Bridgeport Indians by the scores of 11-25 and 10-25. In JV action, B-U and Bridgeport would get the better of the Lady Bearcats by the scores of 15-25 and 12-25 in the first match and 23-25 and 15-25 in the second match.
The next day, the busy Lady Cats would again hit the road with an away contest at Lewis County. The varsity would drop a close contest by the scores of 22-25, 10-25, and 22-25. The JV’s would also see action as they too lost a close contest by the scores of 23-25 and 21-25.
On September 24th, the Lady Cats would finally get to stay at home as they hosted the Lincoln Cougars. Again the Lady Cats were able to take a set but ultimately lost the match by the scores of 13-25, 27-25, 17-25, and 19-25. In JV action, the Lady Bearcats picked up the win by the scores of 25-23 and 25-22.
The Lady Bearcats were back in action on Thursday, September 26th, but results of that match were not immediately available.
