GHS Swimmers compete in Big Ten’s at FSU

FAIRMONT—The Grafton High School swim team competed in the Big Ten Championships last weekend in Fairmont.

In the team competition, the GHS girls finished in seventh place, while the boys finished in sixth place.

Coach Heather England had several of her swimming Cats finish in the top ten in their events.

In the girls 200 medley the team of Natalie Satterfield, Madelyn Countryman, Jocelyn Countryman and Payton England finished in 7th place. In the boys 200 free Calvin Wise placed 10th while J. Countryman placed 7th in the 200 IM.

The best event on the day for GHS was the 50 free as Satterfield finished 6th and England finished 10th for the girls and Luke Nibert placed 6th and Blaise Nibert finished 10th for the boys.

England then entered the pool in the 100 free and touched the wall in 8th place. L. Nibert followed that in the boys 100 free with an identical 8th place.

Satterfield had one of the best finishes of the day as she swam her way to a 5th place finish in the 100 yard backstroke.

The boys 200 yard freestyle relay team of L. Nibert, Wise, Matt Cather and B. Nibert finished in 5th place while the same relay team placed 6th in the 400 free relay.

In the girls 400 free relay the team of England, Emily Cather, J. Countryman and Satterfield placed 10th .

The team was back in the pool this past weekend for Regionals. The results will be in the next edition of the Mountain Statesman.
