BUCKHANNON—The Grafton High School swim team headed back to Buckhannon last Saturday, to compete in the WV Region III swimming Championships at WVWC.
The swimming Cats swam some of their best times of the year, but the times were not good enough as no Bearcat swimmer advanced into the state finals.
Region III is comprised of teams from Bridgeport, Buckhannon-Upshur, Robert C. Byrd, Elkins, Woodrow Wilson, Philip Barbour, Notre Dame, Grafton, Lincoln and Liberty.
In team competition, the GHS girls finished in eighth place, and the boys finished in tenth place.
In individual events, Payton England was the top GHS swimmers as she placed fifth in the 50 free, while teammate Natalie Satterfield placed sixth in the same event.
The top GHS boy finisher was Luke Nibert, as he placed eighth in the 100 free event.
“We did not qualify anyone for the state meet this year, but we finished a great season with some more personal best times, and a great effort at Regionals,” said second year head coach Heather England.
“The kids put in the work, and they gave it all they had yesterday ...as a coach, that is all you can ask for. This has been a great group of kids this season, and I hope they are as proud of their accomplishments as I am! It has been an honor to coach them,” she added.
