GRAFTON—A Grafton High School senior will continue his education at an Ivy League school.
Fletcher Newell is graduating as valedictorian for the Grafton High School Class of 2020. Amidst all the turmoil of a non-traditional academic year, Fletcher received and accepted an offer to attend Columbia University.
Fletcher is the son of Joey Newell and Teresa Dalton.
He received a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) internship last year, which solidified his choice to pursue physics.
While at GHS, Newell has been an outstanding student, earning many academic achievements. He was named as an AP Distinguished Scholar, Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalist and GHS Class of 2020 Valedictorian.
Additionally, Newell is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, as well as the National Honor Society.
When he isn’t busy hitting the books, Newell takes part in other activities that lend to his well-rounded appeal.
He is a member of the GHS Speech and Debate Team, GHS Theatre Technical Director and is a member of the Bearcat Marching Band, Jazz Band and Concert Band.
He also serves as a Lego League Robotics Mentor and is proud to be part of the Youth Leadership Association.
Because of his success academically, coupled with his list of extracurricular achievements, Newell earned various scholarships including the GHS Class of 1968 Scholarship, GHS Class of 1976 Scholarship and the Nelson Lantz Math Award.
