GHS runners open season at Doddridge County

DODDRIDGE COUNTY— Starting the season with three of their leading runners sidelined with injuries, the Grafton High School girls track team recently traveled to Doddridge County to compete in their first meet of the season.
While it wasn’t the start they were hoping for, Lady Bearcat Hannah Moats claimed third-place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.74, and she anchored the 4x100  meter relay for a runner-up finish in sprints with freshman teammate Caroline Wellman.
Abigail Stewart placed ninth overall in the 100 meter dash and took 11th in the 200 meter with a time of 32.17.
Meanwhile, freshman River Sipes finished sixth-place in the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run. Emily Viani and Kayla Greathouse also ran in this event coming in 14th and 15th.
Freshmen Maddie Moats and Kayla Greathouse ran their first 800 meter, coming away in tenth and 11th.
Additionally, fellow freshmen Ellie Royce, Rylee Jones and Destiny Weaver competed in the 200 meter dash, placing 14th,15th and 16th.
 Junior Payden Morris was the lone Grafton competitor in the 400 meter dash taking sixth-place.
Representing Grafton in the 100 meter hurdles were Sophomore Aleecia Shelton, who placed 7th and Sophomore Nevaeh Swisher, who came in tenth.
The boys did not compete at this meet.
