GRAFTON – The Grafton High School volleyball team continued their very busy 2018 schedule as they improve each game. The team has shown signs of promise but has dropped their last four contests.
On 9/13 the GHS varsity lost to Liberty 17–25, 15–25, 22–25. Payton Shreve had five aces, three kills and two blocks Haley Skiles had one ace. Morgan Harrison had two aces, two kills and one block. Madison Smith had one ace. The JV team also lost to Liberty 16–25, 19–25.
The next game for the Lady Cats was against Lewis County. GHS lost to Lewis County 15–25, 21-25, 5–25. Shreve had one kill and one block while Skiles had one ace and one block. Harrison also had one ace and one block. The Lady Cat JV’s lost 13 -25, 20- 25.
The Cats then fell to the Tigers of Elkins. The varsity lost 14-25, 22-25, 11-25 and the JV’s lost 14-25, 6-25.Shreve recorded seven blocks, one kill, and one ace. Harrison had two blocks, one ace and 1 kill. Katie Scherzinger had two blocks and one kill and Marti Lantz added an ace.
The final contest last week was against Lincoln at home. Varsity lost three out of five sets. They lost 17-25, won 25-14, won 25-21, lost 10-25 and lost the last set 4-15. The JV’s lost 17-25, 15-25. Shreve led the team with seven kills, one block and one ace while Skiles had four aces and four kills. Aniesa Taylor had three aces, five kills and Harrison added three kills and three blocks. Rachael Rock had 4 assists while Scherzinger had one assist. Smith had three aces and one kill to round out the GHS stats.
The girls were back in action this past Wednesday night at Notre Dame. The results will be in a future edition of the Mountain Statesman.
