GHS Golfers continue winning ways


GRAFTON—The Grafton Bearcats golf team has continued to shoot well as of late, participating in matches at Tygart Lake Golf Course and on the road at Green Hills Golf Club in Fairmont and The Pines Country Club in Morgantown.

On August 27, the Bearcats welcomed North Marion and Lewis County to their home course in Knottsville for a tri-match.

Grafton shot a team score of 174 to finish just behind Lewis County’s 171, while North Marion shot 207 as a team.

The Bearcat’s Caden Moore won low medal honors on the day as he shot a meet-best 37, followed by teammate Christopher Miller’s 39. Gage Colebank shot a respectable 44, while Aaron Weaver shot a 54, followed by Frankie Springs’ 57 and Logan Jones’ 61. North Marion’s Hunter Heath shot a 38 while Lewis County’s leading scorer on the day, Will Lemasters, shot a 46.

The next day, the Bearcats traveled to Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont for a quad match which included RCB, North Marion, and Buckhannon-Upshur.

The Bearcats shot a team total of 174 to take the win with Caden Moore again earning low medalist honors. The senior shot a round of 35 followed by teammate Christopher Miller’s 39, Gage Colebank’s 49, Logan Jones’ 51, Aaron Weaver’s 54, and Frankie Springs’ 63. Other low scores on the day included a 39 from RCB’s Tyler Stemple and a 41 from North Marion’s Michael Harris.

Returning home for their third match in three days, the GHS golfers played host to Trinity Christian and Morgantown in an exciting tri-match.

Senior Caden Moore shot a blistering 34 to lead the field by four strokes. He was followed by teammates Christopher Miller with a 41, Gage Colebank with a 46, Frankie Spring with a 52, Aaron Weaver with a 56, and Logan Jones with a 66.

For the visitors, Morgantown’s Jack Wiedebusch shot an event second-best 38 while Carter Patrick came in third with a 40. For Trinity, Sarah Sheitz shot a very respectable 49.

On September 3rd, the Bearcats headed to The Pines Country Club on Point Marion Road to participate in a quad match with Clay Battelle, Morgantown, and Notre Dame.

Caden Moore again won low medal honors with his brilliant round of 40, followed by Christopher Miller’s 41 and two more 41’s by two of Morgantown’s golfers. Other Bearcat scores included Gage Colebank’s 54 to give the Bearcats a total team score of 135. Morgantown came in first with a total team score of 125 while Notre Dame’s three golfers shot a combined 139. Clay Battelle also participated in the event and shot a total team score of 163.
