GHS golf celebrates personal improvements

BRIDGEPORT—Grafton High School sophomore standout Dustin Keener once again led the golf team while competing at the Bridgeport Country Club.

Pinned against tough Bridgeport, Buckhannon-Upshur and East Fairmont teams, on another challenging course, the Bearcats were unable to secure the win. However, the team continues to celebrate personal improvements that will pay off in the long run.

Through the nine holes played, Keener recorded one of the lowest scores on the day, shooting a 42, just three strokes shy of earning lowest, which was claimed by BU’s Coffman, who recorded a 39.

Bearcat Aiden Sheme shot a 63, while Brayden Palmer came in just behind Keener with a 43. Wyatt Poling assisted his team’s final total with a finishing score of 50 and freshman Corbin Knotts continued to improve, shooting a 55 this week.

“We played solid on another great golf course,” voiced head coach Ed Moore. “We continue to see improvement week to week.”

The Bearcat golf team competed in Fairmont at Apple Valley last night. Results from that match will be featured in the next edition of the Mountain Statesman.  The team will also take to the green on Monday, August 30, at the Fairmont Field Club.
