GRAFTON – The Grafton High School girls soccer team finished their 2017 campaign with ten wins on the season. The Lady Cats recorded wins over Weir, Elkins, Philip Barbour, Brooke, Lewis County, Preston, Point Pleasant, North Marion and Lincoln. The Cats overall record for the girls was 10 wins, 10 losses and two ties.
As a team the Lady Bearcats scored 53 goals on the season and allowed only 32.
Ally Peters led the offense for the Bearcats as she managed 16 goals and six assists on the year. The next highest goal total of six came from senior Kaycie Cochran. The remaining goals came from Sarah Snider (5), Rachel McKinney (5), Josie Grass (5), Maggie Dickey (5), Emily Knotts (4), Morgan Griffith (3), Micah Collins, Mariah Collins, Madie Summers and Chloe Collins.
Maggie Dickey also led the defense this season with 50 steals from her defensive position.
Katie Grinnan held down the goalie position for the Cats this season as she played in all 22 games recording 81 saves, 5 shut-outs and only allowed 27 goals. Bailey Toothman and Natalie Weber also had time in the goal for the Cats. Toothman played in eight games with six saves and only allowed two goals while Weber played in seven games with nine saves and allowed three goals.
“It was a privilege to coach an outstanding group of young ladies,” said veteran head coach Lorraine Isner. “In many ways they are a blessing to me and I am thankful for each one and what they bring to our team. This season had many challenges and one of the most competitive schedules. The team’s perseverance and high standards of excellence is a testament to their individual and collective commitment to Lady Bearcat Soccer,” she concluded.
