GHS freshmen stay busy last week

GRAFTON—The Grafton High School freshman basketball team had a very busy week last week, when they played four games in five days.

The Bearcats traveled to Philippi and West Fairmont and they hosted Lewis County and North Marion.

The Bearcats faced the Philip Barbour Colts on Monday ,and fell to the Colts 62 to 56. Jack Faulkner led the scoring for the Cats with 20 points followed, by Logan Beltner and Devin Vanscoy with  points apiece. The remaining points came from Mark Irvine (7), Mason Henderson (5), Isaiah Stottlemyer (2), Elijah Drainer (2) and Joey Charlton (2).
On Tuesday the Bearcats were home against Lewis County. The Bearcats dominated in the middle quarters on their way to a 49 to 41 win over the Minutemen.

The leading scorer for the Cats was Faulkner with 18 followed by Beltner with 10. The reaming Cats in the scoring column were Vanscoy (5), Irvine (3), Henderson (4) and Drainer (9).

On Wednesday the Freshman headed to the west side of Fairmont to battle the Polar Bears. The Polar Bears left the gym that night with a 67 to 53 win.

The Cats were led by Faulkner with 19 and Beltner with 13 followed by Vanscoy (9), Irvine (8), Henderson (2) and Charlton (2).

If the week was not long enough for these young men, they decided to go into overtime with North Marion on Thursday night before pulling out a 79 to 73 victory.

Faulkner exploded for 38 points to lead the Bearcat attack followed by Vanscoy with 14. The remaining points came from Beltner (8), Irvine (11) and Charlton (8).

The freshman will be back in action on Wednesday at RCB and at Lincoln on Friday.
