KEYSER—The Grafton High School freshman basketball team competed in the Keyser Holiday Basketball Tournament last weekend and returned with a 1 and 1 overall record. The Bearcats defeated Fort Hill 45 to 44 but lost to Southern Maryland 56 to 32.
Against Fort Hill the Bearcats used strong second and fourth quarters and made their free throws down the end to come away with the one point victory.
Kaden Delaney led the Cats with 15 points followed by Tanner Moats with 14. The remaining points were scored by Justin Spiker (10), Daniel Bord (3) and Andrew Irvine (3).
Against Southern Maryland the Cats were not as fortunate as they were in the game until the fourth quarter when Southern Maryland outscored the Cats 21 to 3.
Delaney was once again the leading scorer for GHS with 15 points. He recorded a total of 30 points in the two games. The remaining points were scored by Spiker (7), Irvine (4), Moats (4) and Matthew Helmondollar (2).
The freshman boys will be back in action next Wednesday as they host Bridgeport. The game will be held at the Clair Bee Fieldhouse and will tipoff at 6:00 p.m.
