GHS Cheer competes in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG – The Grafton High School cheerleading squad took several team members to Martinsburg last weekend to compete in the Martinsburg High School Cheerapalooza. This was not your regular team cheer competition as the girls were entered into events such as jumps, tumbling and sideline cheer.

The entire squad could not attend as it was a very busy weekend at GHS with Entertainers and an FFA competition. This did not slow down the girls that did attend as they all had a very enjoyable afternoon.

“We definitely had the smallest group as the group above us had 15 members,” said head coach Crystal Morris. “We may have had small numbers but our girls gave it their all,” she added.

During the jump competition Micah Collins placed third out of the group of 30 participants, while teammate Madelyn Countryman placed third in the tumbling competition.

I was so proud of all of the girls. Many stepped up out of their comfort zones,” said Morris. “Madelyn even did a pass that had only been done on mats until this competition,” she added.

At the conclusion of the event, seniors Micah Collins and Cheyenne Wychoff were both named Outstanding Cheeleaders at the event.

With this final event for the GHS girls it will bring a close to their winter competitions.
