GHS boys shut out South Harrison, tie with Oak Hill


GRAFTON—The Grafton High School boys soccer team returned home on Thursday night to host the Hawks from South Harrison. The Bearcats had little trouble with the Hawks as the Cats shutout them out 8 to 0.

Conor Goldizen started the scoring for GHS 33 seconds into the contest as he scored on a nice “thru” pass from Gabe Wolverton. The scoring would continue as Gabe Wolverton will added two goals and Joey Charlton would add one more to go into the locker room at halftime winning 4 to 0.

In the second half the Bearcats would get goals from Stetson Sanders, Goldizen, Cody Abraham and Kaden Delaney to give GHS another victory.

GHS had 15 shots on goal in the contest with those shots coming from Goldizen (3), Wolverton (4), Kaden Moore, Charlton, Sanders (3), Marik Chambers, Abraham and Delaney.

On the defensive side of the field the Cats recorded steals from Gabe Wolverton (3), Gavin Wolverton (3), Delaney, Chambers (2), Eyan Moran (3), Tanner Taylor, Moore (2) and Abraham (2).

Alec Correia was in goal for the Cats earning another shutout for his resume.

The Bearcats returned to the field on Saturday as they faced Oak Hill. The Cats battled the entire game but in the end both teams had to settle for a 2 to 2 tie.

The Bearcats had a total of four shots on goal with two of those shots getting through to the back of the next. GHS’s first goal of the day was scored by Gabe Wolverton off a penalty kick. The second and last goal for GHS was scored by Marik Chambers as it was also off a penalty kick.

Both of the GHS goals were scored in the second half of the contest.

Correia was once again in goal for GHS as he left the field with four saves in the contest.

The Cats will be back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Tennerton to face the Buckhannon Upshur Buccaneers. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
