Fredrick Franklin Martin, 89, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at his residence with family by his side.
He was born December 17, 1930, in Simpson, son of the late Ray and Anna Bullough Martin.
Fred is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Michelle A. Lantz Martin, whom he married on June 18, 1996.
Fred retired from the United States Air Force with twenty-three years of service. He served during the Vietnam War and received the Meritorious Service Medal in 1972, the Bronze Star Medal in 1973 and the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1974. He owned and operated the franchise for KFC for thirty-nine years. Fred was a sports enthusiast and was an avid WVU fan and a true Mountaineer. He enjoyed watching baseball and basketball. Fred adored his family and making memories during the time they spent together. He attributed his family as being his greatest asset. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by three sons: Fred A. Martin and wife Linda, Plattsburgh, NY, Richard S. Martin, Philippi, Joshua Martin and wife Amanda K, Morgantown; five grandchildren: Joe Martin and wife Amy, Brittany Martin, Zachery Martin, Kinsley B. Martin, Joshua Cameron Martin; numerous nieces and nephews that he adored and loved.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by one son, David F Martin; one daughter, Lisha R Martin; three brothers, James Tillson Martin, Odbert Ray Martin and Jack Martin; two sisters, Doris Dean and Mary Iris Martin.
A graveside service will be on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., at the West Virginia National Cemetery, with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating, where full military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the Taylor County Honor Guard.
