FAIRMONT—According to Fairmont State University head men’s golf coach Sarah Yost, the Fighting Falcons will add four student-athletes for the upcoming 2020-21 season, including one of Grafton’s own standouts.
2020 GHS graduate Caden Moore, who officially signed with Fairmont State on May 11th at Tygart Lake Public Golf Course, was a 2018 Big 10 and Regional champion as a member of the golf team for the Bearcats. He also helped lead Grafton to a runner-up finish in the 2108 AA state championship.
This past season, Moore earned 1st-Team All-Big 10 Conference honors and was a Region 1 state qualifier as he finished third at the AA state championship in Wheeling. He was also a medalist in the 2019 Green Hills Invitational. He plans on majoring in Occupational Safety at Fairmont State.
Also joining the program for the 2020-21 season are Clark Craig from Fairmont Senior, Norris Beard from Greenbrier East, and Christian McKisic, a transfer from the University of Charleston.
Craig earned Big 10 Player of the Year honors twice in his career, once in 2018 and then again in 2019, and won a state championship as a senior at Fairmont Senior High School. He was awarded All-Conference and All-Tournament honors four times and was an all-state selection in both 2018 and 2019. In addition, Craig led Fairmont Senior to three runner-up finishes at the state tournament and was state runner-up in the individual portion in 2018. He plans to major in Business Management at Fairmont State.
A 1st-Team All-State selection at Greenbrier East, Beard’s accomplishments include a top-five finish at the WVGA Mid-Atlantic Junior event, and the low round for his team during the WVGA event. Beard was selected to the 2020 North-South All-Star squad and finished eighth in the 2019 Callaway Junior Tour.
He was a four-year letterman for the Spartans and was voted team captain as a senior this past season.
McKisic comes to Fairmont State after two seasons at Mountain East Conference member The University of Charleston, where he played from 2018-20. McKisic won a state championship at Buckhannon-Upshur High School and was a three-time Callaway Junior Tour Player of the Year. He also helped the Buccaneers to conference and regional championships during his high school career. While playing for the University of Charleston, McKisic placed second in two events during his freshman season.
In head coach Sarah Yost’s two seasons with the program, the Falcons have been ranked in the Atlantic Region standings during each season, and her golfers have earned all-conference honors on six different occasions.
