Fill your weekend with fun events geared toward women

GRAFTON—This weekend, women can focus on their health and wellbeing, with some special events.

On Saturday, October 13, make your way to Tygart Lake State Park, near the Nature Center/Park Office, for the 22nd Annual Taylor County Walk for Women & 5K. This year’s walk will be held in the memory of Jenny Keener Gower.

Thirty-four-year-old Jenny passed away in January, after a 15-month battle with breast cancer. This Saturday, her family welcomes you to come and celebrate her life, hope and strength.

“The walk this year is in memory of our beloved Jenny, but we remember and support all the strong women who have fought and are continuing to fight this tough battle,” expressed Kali Keener.

Get your day started with a fun event, geared at drawing awareness to a serious issue. Runners, lace up those sneakers and get ready for the 5K, which will begin at 9:00 a.m. Then, join in on the walk at 11:00 a.m.

All individuals wishing to participate in this year’s events will need to be registered. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.

Bring the kiddos out for a fun day in the park. Free children’s activities will be held from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Be sure to bring some extra cash to the event, because there will be plenty of raffles during the day. Get ready to claim your Longaberger, Origami Owl, Jewell by Thirty-One, Tupperware, Bath and Body Works and more.

Ticket are $1 per chance or six chances for $5. Winners will be announced after the event speaker, and participants do not have to be present to win.

Then, on Sunday, October 14, join PR Plus Events for the Eighth Annual West Virginia Women’s Extravaganza, the largest women’s expo in the state.

Grab the girls and head on out to Mylan Park’s Ruby Community Center from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for the fun.

During the event, be sure to stop by the various vendor booths, specializing in items related to fashion, fitness, health, beauty, travel, business, family, home, garden, arts and crafts.

“Vendors will be selling their products and services to over a thousand women, all in one day,” commented Labeth Hall of PR Plus Events.

The expo will be featuring health and fitness experts, health spas, beauty specialists, hair salons, jewelers, fashion boutiques, medical professionals, home decorators and improvement contractors, massage therapists and tanning and nail salons, just to name a few.

This year’s expo will be featuring the ever-popular BINGO at noon, which raises money for programs at Stepping Stones for special needs children and adults.

Then at 2:30 p.m., indulge yourself at a wine and chocolate tasting with Lambert’s Vintage Wines and Sarris Chocolates.

“What lady does not like wine and chocolates,” questioned Hall.

She said it is the goal of organizers to continue to bring fun, unique experiences for the ladies to enjoy.

“This event is so much fun,” she expressed. “Ladies of all ages can come and relax, enjoy entertainment and shop ‘til they drop. They can also receive free makeovers, manicures and massages too!”

She shared that it’s the perfect event for a girls’ day.

Ladies are invited to register at the prize table for their chance to win numerous prizes that will be given away hourly.

Be sure to enter for the “Pamper Me” Getaway, which includes a two-day, one-night stay at Stonewall Resort & Spa. The trip for two will feature breakfast, massages and facials.

Another grand prize being offered, at 3:00 p.m., is a gift basket valued at over $1,000, including a three-day, two-night getaway to Massanutten Resort, in addition to a variety of gift cards for shopping, jewelry, restaurant gift certificates, candles bath products, massages, beauty products, accessories, home décor and a variety of other gifts. Winner must be present to win.

Guests will enjoy shopping and hourly entertainment, including the Motown Strutters, Pole Dancing with Dance Rebellion and other performers.

During the day, a silent auction will be held, with all proceeds going to breast cancer programs with the American Cancer Society.

The event will close with the designer fashion show at 3:00 p.m., highlighting many of the newest fashions from area boutiques, followed by the grand prize drawing.

For just $9, you can enjoy a day centered around the wonderful women in your life. The first 50 people to register at the door will receive a free gift.

Bring a new toy to donate to the Children of Floods Toy Drive and receive a $1 off the admission price. All toys will be sent to children in shelters who were affected by the recent floods.
