FES sings a salute to area Veterans

FLEMINGTON—On Friday, Flemington Elementary School’s second, third and fourth graders presented their second annual Veteran’s Day Concert to veterans and their families.

“Thank you to everyone who was able to attend today’s special program,” Principal Melissa Lampinen expressed. “It was an honor for our students and staff to pay tribute to the greatest defenders of our country.”

She voiced that on that day, they saluted and remembered to honor those who have served.

Veteran Don Barney read a poem titled “It is the Soldier,” to the students.

After the reading, members from the Taylor County Honor Guard were at the event to present the 13 Folds of the Flag Ceremony to the students and attendees.

After learning about the flag and the meaning of each fold, the students presented their special program.

During the program, students honored the veterans by singing patriotic songs including “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “This Land is Your Land,” “God Bless the USA,” “I’m Proud to be an American,” “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” and more.

During this year’s program, the students sang nine songs and worked hard for two weeks leading up to the showcase to remember the lyrics.

Faculty Senate President Kathy Jones shared that they are so proud of the students, and they enjoyed honoring and hosting the veterans at the school.

At the end of the program, veterans and their families enjoyed refreshments.

Members from the Taylor County Honor Guard expressed that they enjoyed the program and that the students did a wonderful job.
