Famous country star coming to Grafton

GRAFTON— Mark your calendars! After weeks anticipation surrounding who this year’s entertainment would be for the 11th Annual Spirit of Grafton celebration, City Manager Kevin Stead finally made the announcement last week.

Grafton will proudly welcome country music artist Darryl Worley as this year’s headliner. Worley will be preforming on Saturday, May 27, at 8:00 p.m., in downtown Grafton. The show will wrap up with a bang, as fireworks are displayed in the sky over the town.

During his 17-year career, Worley’s six albums have produced nearly 20 hit singles and three chart-topping hits including “Awful, Beautiful Life,” and the emotional “Have You Forgotten.”

Worley wrote these two songs himself, and “Have You Forgotten” spent an astonishing seven weeks at number one.

He was inspired to write the heartfelt melody, which became the biggest hit of his career, after the events on September 11,2001.

The song remains one of the most anticipated highlights in his live shows, especially when visiting the United States troops. Preforming for the troops has become a yearly tradition for Worley.

In addition, Worley has had three number one hits, nine top 20’s and many songs reaching the top 40’s.

He also recognizes the importance of giving back every opportunity that he can.

Worley does this through holding annual charity events such as “Tennessee River Run.” Proceeds from the event benefit the Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center in Savannah, Tennessee.

“Mr. Worley performs a very patriotic show that we believe is very fitting for the 150th Annual Memorial Day Parade and Observance in Grafton,” commented Stead.

Stead is hoping for Worley to draw a big crowd to town.

“We try to make the celebration bigger and better every year, and I think this will be excellent for the Spirit of Grafton,” expressed Stead.

Community members seem to be very excited with the announcement saying things like, “This is huge.” “I’m so excited, he is a great singer!” and “This should be an awesome show. Way to go Grafton!”

The Spirit of Grafton is a three-day festival, in which attendees are treated to pool parties, amusement rides, carnival foods and games.

With this big news the celebration at the end of May is sure to be a memorable one.

More information on the Spirit of Grafton is forthcoming.
