TAYLOR COUNTY—With the weather warming up and folks looking for something to do to fill their time, why not venture out to one of the beautiful locations that Taylor County, and the surrounding area has to offer.

The area’s state parks are offering fun outdoor recreational activities that not only get you up and moving but can help boost your mood, and Governor Jim Justice is encouraging folks to get outside and enjoy all that the Mountain State has to offer.

“We want you to enjoy the parks. We want you to get outside. We want you to bike and hike and fish,” Governor Jim Justice said. “Taking in the wonderful, pristine air from our parks can be very calming.”

“Absolutely go to our parks and enjoy the parks,” he continued.

Luckily for community members, the county houses various outlets for outdoor recreation.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Taylor County is a little slice of “almost heaven” where the county’s residents and guests can enjoy the quiet, relaxing beauty of the Mountain Mama.

Take a drive out to the Tygart Lake State Park, where you and your family can experience some of the area’s most breathtaking views as you spend the day hiking on its many trails or, for the time being, take a stroll along the waterline.

While the lake is still at winter pool, head out to Pleasant Creek Wildlife Management Area, located on the border of Taylor and Barbour Counties on Rt 119 South, to explore the cliffs and rocks that are usually submerged in water.

Before long, the lake level will begin to rise, and boaters will make their way to one of the area’s most well-known destinations. For now, those with kayaks, canoes or fishing boats can take to the water to enjoy the great outdoors.

The park offers numerous picnic areas that would make the perfect backdrop for a family meal and areas of play, including swing sets and open space to run.

Tygart Lake State Park offers the perfect locations to get out and go biking, running, walking and geocaching.

Not up for physical activity? The peacefulness and serenity of Tygart Lake is the perfect place to visit and calm your thoughts. Grab your favorite book and pop a squat on one of the park’s benches for a relaxing read.

The lake also provides residents with the perfect place to do some bird watching, a favorite past time at Pleasant Creek Wildlife Management Area, as well.

Looking for a little adventure? Head over to Valley Falls, where the roaring sound of the waterfalls will help set your spirit free.

This dawn-to-dusk park, located off Rt. 310 toward Marion County, offers plenty of outdoor activities including fishing, picnicking, kayaking and biking.

There, guests may also take hike, play on the park’s playground or simply sit on a bench and take in the peaceful and serene setting.
