Dramatic victories highlight TCMS Lady Knight’s Volleyball in September

PRUNTYTOWN—The Taylor County Middle School varsity volleyball Knights officially entered the bulk of the 2022 season schedule throughout the course of a busy month of September. The talented group of girls that make-up the Knights varsity volleyball team displayed the perseverance and resolve of a truly great team, competing in several dramatic three-set epics in recent weeks.

The varsity Knights put together perhaps their best overall team performance to date on the road against Washington Irving back on Tuesday, September 15. The varsity Knights faced some early adversity, losing the first set 25-18. Needing a second set win to send the contest to a decisive third set, the varsity Knights mounted a furious rally to claim the 25-20 win and extend the contest. In the third set, the varsity Knights got off to an excellent start, building a lead that they would never relinquish en route to a 25-18 win.

The varsity Knights found themselves embroiled in another three-set epic just four days later on Monday, September 19 as they traveled to Elkins. The Knights got off to a solid start, opening the game with a 25-23 win in the first set. The second set proved to be another tightly contested battle between these two evenly matched teams, this time with Elkins coming out on top by a score of 25-21. The game-deciding third set was yet another back-and-forth affair. With so much invested in the match at this point, both teams laid it all on the line. In the end, despite a valiant effort the Knights came up on the losing end, barely dropping the final set by a score 25-23.

Just two days later, the varsity Knights got their chance to get back on track against St. Francis at home on Wednesday, September 21. The Knights bounced back at home in a big way, logging a resounding straight set victory, 25-16, 25-12.

The Knights closed out a busy month of September against Mountaineer Middle School on the road on Tuesday, September 27. The Knights got off to an excellent start building an early lead and holding off a late run to secure the first set victory, 25-18. Mountaineer Middle responded in the second set, claiming a 25-18 win to set up a game-deciding third set. In the face of yet another three-set epic and the inevitable fatigue that goes along with a long month of play, the Knights never quit fighting out to a lead before Mountaineer Middle pulled away late, taking the series with a 25-21 win.

Mental resilience and clutch performance have been the key to success thus far for this year’s edition of the varsity Knights volleyball team. Thus far on the 2022 campaign, the Knights have found themselves locked in several close games that go the distance.

This group of young ladies have shown a tremendous amount of maturity in some high pressure situations this season, experience that will prove to be invaluable in the games to come.
