David Jackson Hays, 94, of Flemington, WV, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
He was born in Galloway, WV, on June 30, 1924, a son of the late Stokley D. Hays and Glady Cleavenger Hays.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elnora Marie (Callahan) Hays on September 21, 2007.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by two sons: Gregory Hays and David T. “June” Hays Sr., and one brother, Lovant Hays.
Mr. Hays is survived by five sons: Dale Hays (Lesa) of Grafton, Eugene Hays (Pam) of Flemington, Carl Hays of Flemington, James L. Hays (Jen-Naye) of Galloway, and Donald Hays (Jeanie McDaniel) of Wendel; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Rose Ann Blankenship and Catherine Williams both of KY; and a nephew, Mark Hays of Bridgeport.
David was a graduate of Flemington High School. Early on he worked for the Galloway Coal Mines, then Sears and Roebuck, and later retired from Alleghany Freight Lines. He was Catholic by faith and a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport. David loved fishing, flower pilgrimages with his family, and greatly enjoyed his rose garden. He also loved his dog “Boomer” and most importantly his family and spending time with them.
Family and friends will be received at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home, in Flemington, WV, on Monday, September 17, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at noon.
Interment will follow at the Flemington I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
