PARKERSBURG— Despites what was a very long day against some grueling competition, some of the area’s youngest wrestlers still managed to bring home some hardware.

The Grafton Youth Wrestling Club traveled to Parkersburg to take to the mats of the Rod Oldham Memorial Tournament, and although it proved to boast fierce competition, and didn’t see as many Bearcubs placing,  the club finished the day with three members at the podium.

Rondo Koontz (10U, 95) battled his way to a third-place finish in his division, while teammate Ian Glaspell brought home third in the 10U HWT category, as well as claiming a fourth-place finish in the 12U 145 class.

Rounding out the club’s winnings for the day was Bearcub Brody Moats (10U, 130), who also earned a fourth-place finish. This was Moats’ first wrestling win.

Bryson Swaney, Isaiah Glaspell, Clarissa Miller, Jason Austin and Gaige Glover participated in the tournament on behalf of the Grafton Wrestling Club, as well and showed great athleticism.

“It was a long and tiring tournament with some really touch competition. Everyone did a great job. A special thanks goes to our coaches, Jason Austin, Rock Glaspell and Ronnie Koontz,” commented club board member and wrestling mom Jennifer Glaspell.
