TAYLOR COUNTY—Throughout the year, Grafton and Taylor County residents see the recognition and crowing of local royalty, but only one queen represents an organization that is centered on the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Loyalty Day Queen is a representative of the VFW and their mission to provide veteran assistance and educate the community about issues that many veterans face after their years of service.
The VFW Post 3081’s Auxiliary is pleased to announce his year’s queen, Aubree Collins.
Aubree is the daughter of Chris and Jackie Collins and comes from a family with a long history of military service, which made her eligible to receive her crown and title.
Among the veterans in her family include her three great-grandfathers, who served in the United States Army. She shared with the VFW that one of the gentlemen served not only in the Army but also in the United States Navy.
In addition, Aubree’s grandfathers also served the country, one in the Army and the other in the United States Air Force. Carrying on their rich military heritage, her father enlisted and served in the Air Force, and her uncles became Army men.
I feel very honored to be chosen as Loyalty Day Queen, as I have several family members who have served in our military,” Aubree voiced. “It is important that we always celebrate American Freedom and to show our Loyalty to the United States.”
In her position, her first order of business would have been to represent the VFW during this year’s annual Memorial Day Parade, but sadly the official parade was cancelled due to safety concerns for the community. She will also attend various VFW functions during her reign.
Aubree is currently a junior at Grafton High School, where she excels both academically and athletically. When she’s not hitting the books, Aubree is a member of the Lady Bearcat softball team and a member of the WV Renegades U16 Travel Softball team.
When she isn’t on the field swinging for the fences, Aubree is inspiring the youth of the county to follow their passions and dreams to become a dancer, as a student instructor at Studio C, where she also showcases her own dancing talents.
She is member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church.
In addition to receiving her title, crown and sash, she was presented with a check to help with her future educational endeavors.
“We are so pleased to announce Aubree as our 2020 Loyalty Day Queen. She is such a wonderful young lady and we know she has a bright future,” expressed VFW Post 3081 Auxiliary President Brenda Thompson.
