Calling all bakers!

FLEMINGTON—Have you ever made a pie, and decided it was so good it could win an award? Well, now’s your chance to see how true that is.

The Flemington Days festival is looking for bakers of all ages to enter their pie baking competition, which will take place on September 16.

According to organizers, pies must be made from scratch by the individual entering the contest, and must be prepared in a traditional 8-inch or 9-inch pie pan. Pans will not be returned to contestants following the competition, so leave the family heirlooms at home.

We will not be accepting any cream pies or pies requiring refrigeration,” noted Olive Ricketts, a member of the Flemington Day’s Committee.

All bakers will need to have their entries registered by 2:00 p.m., on Saturday. They can register them at the pie contest table, located inside the Flemington Community Building.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m., pies will be judged on their overall appearance, pastry and filling, but most importantly, taste.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place pies. The blue ribbon pie baker will be awarded $25, while the second-place winner will take home bragging rights and $15. The third-place pastry maker will be awarded $10.

After judging, pies will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, and all proceeds will benefit Flemington Days.

“Bakers get out your pie pans, buyers get out your wallets and everyone plan to come to Flemington to enjoy the fun, food and fellowship of an old-fashioned community festival,” expressed Ricketts. “We hope to see you in Flemington!”
