GRAFTON – The Grafton High School boys basketball team returned home to the friendly confines of the Scotty Hamilton Gymnasium on Wednesday night to battle Big Ten foe, RCB.
The Eagles from Robert C. Byrd came out flying in the first quarter, as they outscored the Cats 19 to 11.
The offense did not show improvement in the second quarter for GHS as they only found the bottom of the net five times with three of the baskets coming from the free-throw line. The Cats found themselves down 36 to 18 at the half.
The Bearcats offense was just as stagnant in the third quarter as they were outscored 21 to 10 to help seal the deal for RCB as they cruise to a 74 to 42 victory.
Freshman Blake Moore led the Cats with 12 points in the contest.
The remaining points on the GHS side of the score book were scored by Brandon Clark (8), Jack Faulkner (6), Dylan Massie (6), Caleb Bish (4), Garrett Wellman (4) and Logan Beltner (2).
The GHS Junior Varsity team was also in action on Wednesday night.
The young Cats played hard to the end but it was just not enough as they suffered the loss to RCB 55 to 54.
The leading scorer for GHS was Devin Vanscoy with 15 points followed by Joe Charlton with 10.
The rest of the points came from Blain Moore (7), Matt Gallo (6), Logan Beltner (6), Blake Moore (6) and Elijah Drainer (3).
The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, as they head to Shinnston to take on the Lincoln Cougars.
The JV game will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the varsity tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
