Big back-to-back wins for the Lady Bearcats over the weekend

GRAFTON— The Lady Bearcats entered the first round of section play against Preston County on Friday, April 22 and took a big win in the bronze bracket. 

After a quiet, scoreless first inning, the Lady Bearcats knocked in 19 runs during the second, compared to Preston’s one sealing the easy victory for Grafton. 

The Lady Bearcats’ runs were scored by Frederique Maloley (2), Gracen Purkey (2), Amber Smith (2), Abby Wyer (3), Ava Schommer-Klebe (3), Lillie Crimm (2), Mattie Shaver (1), Jade Hall (2) and Savannah Wyckoff (2).

Crimm is credited with the win for the Lady ‘Cats, going three innings, walking two, allowing one run, but not allowing a single hit and striking out seven. 

The following day, the Lady ‘Cats would hold on to their momentum and record another shut out win over the East Fairmont High School Lady Bees. 

Maloley took to the rubber for Grafton, throwing a complete shut down and leading the Lady Bearcats to a 6-0 victory at home, going seven innings from the mound, allowing five hits, zero runs and sitting ten.

Smith would get things started for Grafton in the opening inning, drawing a walk that resulted in a run. 

East Fairmont’s Nuzum singled during the first, however, the Lady ‘Cats’ defense was quick to end the play. 

Throughout the contest, the Lady Bearcats did not commit a dingle field error. 

The Lady Bees’ hits were recorded by Ledsome, Nuzum (2), Snyder and Smock.

Grafton’s six runs were earned off seven hits, with Maloley recording three and Smith with two hits, while Crimm and Wyckoff each connected on one.  

Runs were scored by Maloley (2), Purkey, Smith, Shaver and Hall.
