Bernice Arlene Palmer

Bernice Arlene Palmer, 91, of Flemington, WV, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. 

She was born in Barbour County on November 14, 1925, a daughter of the late Loman Harrison and Nancy Ellen (Bennett) Himes. 

Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her husband Edward L. Palmer on March 6, 2008.

Surviving are three children: Hilda Jean Jones and husband Roger of North Madison, OH, Beverly Ann Pyles of Grafton, and Michael Don Weaver of Flemington; five step-children: Mark, Neil, Jack, June, and Linda; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are several nieces, great-nieces, and one great-nephew.

In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by one brother Rayburn Don Himes, one sister Murlene Dale Ward, and one grandson.    

In her younger years Arlene worked as a store clerk and later as a factory worker to help support her family.  In later years she settled to life as a homemaker and enjoyed reading her many books and watching television.  Arlene was an animal lover as well, especially her beloved cats.  She was a very kind and gentle person who cared for others always. 

Family and friends will be received at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home, in Flemington, WV, on Monday, July 10, 2017, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Jimmy Johnson presiding. 

Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park in Grafton.
