GRAFTON—Football season is upon us and area teams have been hitting the turf to strengthen their skills, as well as their minds and bodies.
Among the teams passing, punting and carrying the pigskin will be the Bearcub Midget, PeeWee and Mighty Mite teams.
Since the beginning of August, the boys have been hard at work learning plays, strengthening their defenses and preparing their offenses, in preparation for their first games on Saturday, August 31.
Last weekend, the PeeWees and Mighty Mites made their way to Liberty High School’s football field to participate in a preseason scrimmage. Both teams put their skills to the test and had a strong showing against Bridgeport.
Then, on Sunday, it was the Midget team’s chance to take on Bridgeport in their preseason scrimmage.
During all three matchups, the teams were able to evaluate where they needed a little extra work before their seasons kick-off, and the Bearcubs returned to practice with a hunger for the game.
Football fans, help cheer on the county’s youth footballers as they officially open their seasons on this Saturday, at Grafton High School’s McKinney Field.
The action will start at 3:00 p.m., when Grafton’s smallest Bearcubs, the Mighty Mites, take the field, followed by the PeeWees at 5:00 p.m. The Midgets will round out the evening of play, taking the field at 7:00 p.m. The Bearcubs will be taking on teams from Barbour County.
So, put on your gold and blue, grab your pompoms and megaphones, and get ready to cheer on the Bearcubs as they open their season. Let’s go, Cubs!
