MILL CREEK—On Sunday, the Grafton Bearcubs’ PeeWee squad headed to Mill Creek to face off against the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs in a must-win game for the Bearcubs.
The Bearcubs came into the contest off of a disappointing loss to league co-leader Bridgeport White just the week prior, while Tygarts Valley had been struggling to get much going at all this season, dropping all four of its conference matchups this season.
The Bearcubs put together a solid offensive and defensive performance, shutting out the Bulldogs by the score of 34-0.
Leading the ground attack for the Bearcubs were multiple players, each gaining substantial yardage on just a few carries each.
Garrett Davis was credited with three rushes for 36 yards and a TD, Cade Mooney was credited with two carries for 34 yards and a TD, and Chace Kinsey was credited with 34 yards and a TD on just one carry.
Adding to the rushing totals were Jacob Moats (2-33), Cameron Gray (3-31), Logan Shaver (4-24), Rondo Koontz (1-20-1), JW Nestor (3-2), and Caleb Wilfong (2-2).
On defense, Hunter Barlow led the way for Grafton with seven tackles, while Isaac Young totaled six.
John Logan Jones and Cole Boyles each tallied five, while Nevan Armstrong and Isaiah Lemon each accounted for three.
Garrett Davis was credited with two tackles and an interception return for a TD.
Chace Kinsey and Jasper Wolford were both credited with two tackles, while Caleb Wilfong, Logan Shaver, and Jaxson Hussion each made a tackle, as well.
“We had some kids step up and make some plays on defense,” said Grafton head coach Ben Kinsey. “I thought the kids blocked well as a team and gave the backs some room to run.”
The Bearcubs (4-1) will be back in action on Saturday as they host Summersville (2-3) at McKinney Field in Grafton.
“Summersville won the league last year, and we get them for Homecoming,” said an excited Kinsey.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
