Bearcub Midgets down Lewis County


GRAFTON—The Grafton Bearcubs Midget football came away with a solid win on Saturday at McKinney Field in Grafton, besting Lewis County by the score of 33-28 in a hard-fought matchup.

For Grafton, RB Jarrett Blackhurst led the Bearcubs offensive attack with a staggering 206 yards on just 16 carries with 1 TD and 1 XP.

QB Kaden Keener also added huge chunks of yardage for the Bearcubs as he rushed for 101 yards on 14 carries with 3 TD’s and 2 XP’s.

Troy Weber added a healthy 40 yards on 40 carries while Noah Armstrong gained 32 yards on his lone carry of the afternoon.

On defense, Weber recorded 9 tackles which included a sack, while Keener recorded 7 tackles and Nathanial Bailey added 6.

They were followed by Riley Humphries (4), Cole Runner (4), Jarrett Blackhurst (3), Jaxson Hall (2), Noah Armstrong (2). Josh McIe, Jace McCoy, Jayson Peters, Javon Vanscoy, and Brayden White each recorded a tackle as well.

The Bearcubs (3-3) will be back in action on Sunday, as they travel to Clarksburg to take on the Robert C. Byrd Little Eagles (2-4) at 1:00pm at Robert C. Byrd High School.

They will conclude their season on October 26, when they host Elkins at McKinney Field. That game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
